This will likely get me LYNCHED here, but I don't have or need wheels of my own... I live in the big city. (I have for nearly a Decade.) I also have a BIG family, so hitchin' a ride to family functions, and avoiding contributions to Ozone depletion are easy for me.

When I was very young,( pre-Kindergarten,) my family used to live in my Grandmother's house, which was at the end of a dead-end street in Newton Centre, Mass. ( This was DECADES before Newton as a whole became GENTRIFIED as the result of steady, sub-orbital tax increases. ) I used to sit on the sidewalk curb at the end of the street, and just study the STYLE of the auto's that drove by. I didn't have a clue as to how they ran. But in 1962, I was mesmerized by all of the tail-fins, and the round molding on the trunks of some cars that contained the spare tire. I even have a strong recall of a convertible that drove by one day that was making this noise that I thought was FANTASTIC! It sounded like this car had a powerful engine...and could probably move like a rocket-sled if the driver wanted it to, I imagined. I kept an eye out for this car for the rest of that Summer. And I even saw, ( and heard, ) it rumble by a few more times. Of course, year's later I learned that the driver was just in serious need of a new muffler! I worked in a Library years ago, and often saw a variety of books on the wheeled carts that had to be re-shelved. There was this book about Gas Stations past. The cover had a brilliant color photo of a Gas Station at dusk, clearly taken in the early 1960's. ( For example, this station was selling ESSO gas, complete with the icon of the Pegasus Horse! ) I felt at once young again. This photo alone reminded me of all the road trips we took with my late father. And, it made me realize that I didn't even need current "wheels" to know that my DNA must certainly have been imprinted by my early exposure to the "wheels" experience.

I went to a couple of art colleges in the '70's and '80's. ( Graduated the second one.) Illustration and cartooning were my majors. I've been collecting illustration from the 1950's, which I feel is the period that it had reached it's zenith, before photography replaced the medium in the early 1960's. My Auto interests at present, are collecting Illustration in ALL of it's forms from this time. And what was not a surprise to me was that a good chunk of what I'd gathered together was car illustrations from the '50's and '60's!

( See above for an idea. ) I'll add my family, ( including Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins,) hanging with friends, Movies and Music, and prowling the Internet for Art and Photography.

Science Fiction and Horror Films. Drama's, Comedies, Musicals, Silent, the whole enchilada! My all-time favorite, were I forced to choose just one, would be "WHO'S AFRAID OF VIRGINIA WOOLFE?", with Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton. ( Which includes a lively drunken driving scene, with the cast in a station wagon going to a roadside bar for a nightcap!!)

The Batmobile. ( Nothing else comes close, except MAYBE Speed Racer's MACH 5, or a Country Squire Station Wagon with nifty wood paneling on it's sides! )
